Jay and I were in disbelief as we read the letter. We had come so far and planned so much to have it all fall apart literally at the last-minute. Two of the artists were already on planes and on the way, Lisa Haze, my friend and Ernesto Planas one of the magicians. I was to pick up Lisa in the afternoon and Mahdi was to pick up Ernesto at the airport.
Jay immediately set up contacting the performers via Skype. It was a race against time we had to reach the performers before they got on the scheduled flights and we had to call the airlines and cancel tickets before planes took off. There was stress and many pissed off artist who had turned down other bookings for this show.
Could the show be saved somehow? Brainstorming started to see if anything could be done. Amir, the promoter was willing to be bought out of the show–but the only person with that kind of money, $100,000.00 was out-of-town. We racked our brains to no avail.
To be quite honest although it was a bad thing that the how had been postponed ( for legal reasons the promoter could not say cancelled–it’s a Malaysian thing), there was a part of me that was relieved. I was freed from having to come face to face with Jay’s wife Lisa aka Colombine. I felt that somehow underneath this black cloud that God indeed was looking out for me.
I left Jay amidst the hailstorm to pick Lisa Haze up at the airport. She arrived with fur pieces of luggage containing evening gowns, wigs and hairpieces, boas and fans and all the accessories for a professional performance. I had to tell her. I could not leave the airport with her under false pretenses. I had to tell her the truth. We stopped at the Burger King at the airport and I gave her the devastating news. Lisa took it all in stride. She saw this trip as a oppurtunity to get away and have a vacation and see a new part of the world.
We take a taxi back to the hotel that Jay had booked for Lisa and I to stay at while the show was in production and his wife was in town. I was relieved not to be repacking and having to move all my luggage.
Lisa Haze and I get to the hotel but there is a problem with the booking. They are requiring payment in advance and they did not want to take my debit card–why I do not know. I just about had it with the way business was run in Malaysia and anyone that knows me can surmise that this is the point where I lost it and blew my stack. Somehow we got it all resolved and I left Lisa Haze at the hotel. Later on in the evening Jay and I would join her for dinner. In the meantime I had no idea what the winds of change had brought upon us for the day.
I got back to Jay and I’s hotel room. He had managed to cancel all the flights and had been able to reach all the magicians including his wife, who had been only hours away from getting on a plane with their young son. We were to meet with Kabir that evening for dinner to see if anything positive could be salvaged from the whole situation.
We had a lovely dinner with Lisa and Kabir and headed back to the hotel. I told Jay that he had to give about 20 minutes before he came up because I had a lovely surprise in store for him. The day may have been crappy but I intended that it end with a bang.
I went back to the room and went up lighting scented tea lights around the bed. I had red-silk rose petals that I strew on the carpet making a path from the door onto the bed. I put on my black lace teddy that I had purchased on a layover in London. I put on my thigh high back seemed stockings and my black satin 4 inch sexy high heels. I put on my vintage wrap which was a black sheer chiffon fabric which a black velour cut out design and was trimmed in a beaded fringe. I put on my black velvet beaded gloves, perfume and shaded my lips with my bright red lipstick. I was anxious and ready for Mr. Jay Scott Berry to walk through the door and to make him forget the troubles of the day…….when all of a sudden the phone rings….to be continued………..
