When my magician friend Johnny Tong, had found out that I had been involved with Jay Scott Berry he had plenty to say on the subject. With his permission these are his words regarding the Great and Amazing boy wonder Jay Scott Berry.
I know him, he is everything I hate about magicians. The craft of magic opens you up to the thoughts of people, it is definitely a power. And like the great Stan Lee has said with great power comes great responsibility . Many magicians are dirty sad pathetic lonely men who use their talent to molest and twist with the hearts of many. Sociopaths often love magic, and practice.
Im no saint, I have been bad, I have abused And used as a young man! I get the ego of the performer, the power that comes, and my wife Socorro straightened me out. Thank God for her because someone would be blogging about me! I had a moment in time with Berry, he is a typical deushbag magician, but he will get what he has coming!
Let me give you the illusionist relationship outline:
1 meet young girl who is without a daddy figure, petite, flexible and gullible .
2. Groom her, dance lessons, box jumping rehearsal, of course it’s always the same 4 tricks so it won’t belong before she’s ready for the road or cruiseship!
3 You got the girl and at least 3 big stupid box tricks”no matter the shape of trick it’s a box with a dirty secret, there is plenty of hiding space.
4 The girl now is in the magicians act, her name will never be known! She is a prop , but she is in showbiz. And the magician milks it, on and off stage!
5 The act is a hit, they ate making $4000.00 a week traveling on high seas, seems so magical doing same act night after night.
But in a blink the girl with no name , now a pro “box jumper” is preggers. The magician. Has choice to make. The girl with no name is the money, like hookers they need a pimp. Pregnant hookers are out of work, so are pregnant box jumpers!
6 The assistant becomes magicians wife, she now is at home, running magicians shows, booking him more shows taking care of baby, and usually has to get real job. Of course most box jumpers put on a little weight after child-birth , but don’t worry she’s already been replaced,” and she probably helped pick the new younger thinner girl or girls! Our hero , the boring uncreative magician had to up his game. That means more young gals, and a bigger illusion $50,000, don’t worry wife will take a loan out the house, again, or the magician may have her borrow some from Her parents, parents love the magician.
7 The magician goes back on high seas or convention tour where our hero sells some crappy magic trick he claims to have invented, not really many new magic effects are being invented.
8 Of course the vicious circle usually starts again right about #6 infinity………..

Such a sad tale of deceit and ‘illusion’ and I’m not talking Sleeze Berry!

Wow, what impressive insights! That all makes so much sense. Johnny Tong could write an article/book on the topic! Damn, all these years that musicians got bad raps — now reading this, musicians are saints compared to magicians. LOL.
So cool that he credits his wife for him to up his game. That’s how I feel about my husband too, he helped me become a better person. That is what love is, getting each other to the next (higher) level, not dragging each other to the ground.
So cute how he wrote: “Thank God for her because someone would be blogging about me.” What a sweet, honest, humble, charming guy! I also loved his spelling of the word “deushbag” — never saw it spelled like that before, ha-ha
Cute picture with the cat too, this was a good one!

I have worked for many years on the same gigs with Johnny and he is an awesome performer and his wife was always with him on the jobs. He is a good person.

Yes, definitely sounds like a good person! See, you have all the good ones on your side, that means you’re a good person too
January 19, 2013 at 7:43 pm
Yes, I like to think I am bascially a good person, but I like to let people know I have a temper and I do not walk away from a fight. And that’s what this whole story had been about the fight of good over evil and if you don’t call out evil–it just keeps happening over and over. And the support from all of you has been so validating and healing, especailly when you have around people that believe him over you–makes you feel like you are the crazy one.
January 19, 2013 at 7:48 pm
No, don’t think you’re the crazy one. He’s just manipulating them. I know people who do that. They are very good at it, but they will pay in the end, trust me, because truth always comes out.

There’s that endless cycle. A repeating them for all of these types.

Yes, and magic is such an “old boys club”–they mostly resent women, especially female magicians. They cover up for each other’s affairs–so yes, it’s nice when one of their own actually tells the truth of hos it is. This was so validating coming from Johnny.

There’s always a flip side too. I had a male friend who was burned badly by a woman (who cheated on him, stole his money/credit cards, used him, etc.). He became a magician, briefly on a very low scale but did some amazing performances with comedy too. He got the negativity out of his system with his magic act. It was a good thing for him as the creativity really helped him get over a bad time.
