When JSB had approached me to be his music manager I jumped right in learning and absorbing as much as I could. He would talk about the cities we would go to while he was on tour and it all sounded so exciting even though I did have reservations about being away so much. I have a six year old puppy and two cats to take care of so it was not like I could just get on a plane at the drop of a hat–magical or otherwise.
We also talked at length about the music we would we work on together–I mean he had written a song about us–thirty years ago. How romantic is that. I have always wanted someone to write a song for me and he did it.
So, when the bottom fell out of my world it really fell on so many levels. I was about to end the personal relationship–I just couldn’t handle being someone’s mistress. I knew that I had deserved better than that–it’s just that he beat me to the punch.
We tried to maintain some kind of working relationship. Little did I know that he was only keeping the lines of communication open until his name got cleared with the Malaysia scandal and he would do one of his disappearing acts.
In the meantime I started writing song lyrics and I was hopeful that we could at least work on songwriting together as a way to make money. Afterall, he had composed three beautiful New Age C.D’s and I was in love with that music.
I did not understand why he did not want to work on music together. His answer was that he worked when he was inspired and the he was too busy trying to recoup from the Malaysia disaster. I was frustrated beyond words as I was trying to salvage something out of the last four months.
The publicist did not get it either. She told me that writers write and composers compose. You don’t wait for inspiration. Inspiration does not pay the bills. A professional gets the work done. I was in agreement with this. I have never understood writers block for that matter. I am one of the lucky few I guess. My issue is having the time to write because once I am at the computer the words do flow. I just did not understand this man’s obstinence. I was so determined to work with the composer of those C.D.’s.
In the meantime, I continued with my guitar and piano lessons and continued to write lyrics…..and yes God was guiding me to the composer of the C.D’s……….
